When depression is a problem it affects your work, relationships, your social life and your self confidence. Some tell-tale signs of serious long term depression are that you experience changes in your eating or sleep patterns. You no longer have the energy to do things, you can't concentrate. You feel adrift in a sea of worthlessness, nothing is worth the bother. Nothing can stimulate your interest anymore. You view yourself and the world around you negatively. You have no self-esteem. You lack any sex drive. You may also feel constantly irritable, on edge with a short fuse to tears or temper.
Depression can be triggered by many things: emotionally significant events, anxiety, guilt, shame. Once we have established a relationship of trust and security we will explore the complex emotions that have triggered and feed your depression. The therapy will help you learn to view life with a more positive outlook and grow out of the depressive cycle of thinking.
